After 115 years, our family has come to the not too difficult decision to retire. Please understand that it is not for a lack of business, conversely, business has got to the point where we just can’t keep up with the demand for custom work, jewelry, watch repairs, and appraisals. In the recent past, we have gone from 5 to 2 family members. The demand for local, qualified craftspeople continues to soar, but there are very few that follow the tradition of learning the trade from the previous generations. Rachel represents the fifth generation and has worked with us for the past decade. Many of our customers have asked if she could continue the business, but the 3 of us can’t keep up right now. We would never be happy sitting around waiting to sell jewelry, making sure our socials look pretty and checking trade publications looking for the next ‘big thing’. That’s not us. As my grandfather once said, “There are jewelers and people who sell jewelry, your customers will know the difference” and that phrase has served our family well for over a century.
We understand how uncomfortable and frustrated customers are in leaving cherished valuables for repair at some place knowing that they are being sent to a repair shop in Providence, Boston, or New York, but ‘it is what it is’ these days.
So our plan is to be closed by the end of May and to not accept repairs after the beginning of April. We’re sure you have plenty of questions. We have some suggestions. Please feel free to contact us by phone or email.
We want to thank the many customers our family has made over the years for both their business as well as their friendship. One of the amazing things is seeing the weddings, graduations, births, anniversaries, through generations. It has been a lot of fun.
